The nutcracker, Carmen and Swan lake are performed regularly at
the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Company, but with no real interest
shown by the locals and inadequate funding, ballet and opera remain
a relatively less popular to the masses and more for the rich elite
of the city.
Classical Music
Also slightly alien to this city, the Ataturk Cultural Centre,
the Haci ymer Hall and the Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall and the
glorious Aya Irini stage acclaimed local and international artists
especially during Music Festival week although large audiences
are not guaranteed.
Museums
The best of the many many museums is the Archaeology museum, the
Rahmi M Koa Industrial museum, the Kariye museum for its history,
the Military Museum and Ataturk Museum are all a few to start
off with and for the rug enthusiast who really wants to find
out about this special indigenous craft, go to the Vakiflar Carpet
museum.
