Accommodation in Istanbul

Booking a restored mansion of a traditional wooden house or even a night in a converted prison, you can find many choices to choose from and with prices ranging from the budget accommodation to 5 star hotels offering everything at a price. There are adequate hotels around the Sultanahmet district but the busy businessman much prefer the central location of Taksim or even the hotels around the airport. The Asian side of Istanbul is quieter than the European side and while the Tourists love the historical side, the businessman prefers the convenience of the Asian side and Bosphorus and thats why much of Istanbul’s business happens here.

On the Prince’s Islands, one can get a mid-week discount hotel rate during the quiet days and the cruise is very attractive. Breakfast and the usual 18% vat is normally included but check just in case. Tipping is always welcome and a couple of Turkish Lira in the hands of the porters etc. will guarantee a good service.

The Beylerbeyi, which was the summer home of the Sultans, has a lovely marble fountain and large pool in its main salon and it’s surrounded by over 20 blue and white striped 30 foot tall marble columns. Upstairs was the study with is wooden inlays, is an indication of just how recently the Ottoman Empire finished.
